About Me

My name is Sara Trace and I am a licensed psychologist in NC practicing locally in Durham, NC as well as virtually. I am also a PSYPACT provider (allowing me to practice psychotherapy in 43 states (click here for PSYPACT map).

I completed my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at Bates College (Lewiston, ME) and my MS and PhD in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, VA). My graduate research focussed on eating disorders with an emphasis on genetic epidemiology. I completed my pre-doctoral clinical fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale University (New Haven, CT) in the Assessment and Neuropsychology Track. During this time, I also underwent extra training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Allowing me to build upon my substantial expertise in treating general psychopathology, I completed a three year post-doctoral fellowship in Eating Disorders at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, NC) in Center for Eating Disorder Excellence (CEED) in the Department of Psychiatry.

I treat clients with a variety of presenting problems and concerns and have  highly specialized expertise in treating depression, anxiety, chronic pain, trauma and eating disorders or other food concerns. I also frequently work with individuals in academic or medical settings exploring career and lifestyle satisfaction.

I have published in numerous peer-reviewed journals as well as written book chapters and review articles (for a sample of my publications click here).

I am currently a member of the North Carolina Psychological Association, The Jeffrey Young Schema Therapy Association, and The International Society for Schema Therapy.
